On May
16, 2001, MEHC was officially recognized as an ¡°exemplary company¡±
by the Headquarters of Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine
Bureau in China-which inspects the quality of products exported
from and imported into Shanghai. MEHC was the first company
to be accorded this status and one of only 15 to be selected
to date from among 10,000 applicants.
The ¡°exemplary company¡± program acknowledges companies with
export products of excellent quality. Companies with this status
are awarded the privilege of simplified and expeditious customs
clearance of export products.
MEHC, which manufactures ball bearings
at its Shanghai Plant and DC and AC fan motors at its Xicen
Plant, was praised for.:
- observing the laws, regulations and rules set down by
the bureau;
- achieving a success rate of 99% or higher in export product
quality inspections for two consecutive years;
- having no compensation claims resulting from professional
negligence or product-related accidents for two consecutive
years;
- achieving and maintaining ISO 9002, the international
standards for quality management systems; and
- having qualified product quality controllers and organizations
in-house.
As an ¡°exemplary company,¡±
MEHC will be entitled to the following privileges for two years,
considerably reducing expenses and time for customs clearance:
- a reduction in its share of expenses for product quality
inspections to 55%, from the current 100%; and
- expedited declaration procedures-approximately one hour,
from an average of two to three hours at present.
MEHC can also process product
quality inspection applications using electronic data interchange
(EDI). This will reduce the expenses presently incurred by applications
through documents as well as decrease the volume of paper used,
thereby contributing to environmental preservation.
Minebea has striven for increased
efficiency in customs clearance procedures for exports and imports
and been highly rated by customs authorities in various parts
of the world. In March 2001, the Company was authorized under
Tokyo Customs' ¡° Approval No.1¡± as an eligible applicant for
simplified declaration procedures for exports and imports. In
Thailand, home of Minebea's largest manufacturing base, the
Company was the first foreign investor authorized by the Thai
Customs Department to use an electronic data storage system
for customs clearance procedures.
